A centuries-old popular country pub has closed for five weeks for a makeover.

The Bear's Head in Brereton near Sandbach closed on Monday (September 4th) and is due to re-open on Sunday, October 8th.

A post on the pub's Facebook page says: "We are now temporarily closed - over the next five weeks our pub is going to have a major remodel. Please bear with us - it will be worth it!"

Built in the 1600s, it was originally known as 'The Boars Head' and was a positing house on the London to Liverpool turnpike.

So busy did it become that in the 18th century, a new wing was built and stables constructed.

Sandbach Nub News can't wait for it to reopen and for us to have a look inside!
