A popular Holmes Chapel Chinese restaurant name is being taken to Crewe, as an experienced restaurateur prepares to launch Fortune City next week.

Fortune City, Nantwich Road, will officially open at 5pm on Tuesday 22 September, promising "quality food" and a familiar face behind the kitchen.

Owner, Charlie Yu, has worked in kitchens since 2000, including at the Crewe premises when it was previously known as Goomet.

He has also run restaurants in Crewe and Sandbach and worked at Chopstix in Congleton and Nantwich.

The head chef he has hired also previously worked at the former Holmes Chapel restaurant in London Road which was Harry Styles' favourite and where he reputedly took Taylor Swift when he was dating her.

Charlie decided to take the business back after seeing it decline under a previous operator.

He told Nub News: "It was previously one of the best takeaways and restaurants in Crewe, we had a lot of great reviews and over 2,000 members on our group.

"But after another person ran it for two years, everything went downhill.

"That is why I decided to take it back over and rebrand as Fortune City."

The Fortune City name comes from the popular restaurant on London Road, Holmes Chapel, which closed after 41 years in April, with the building set to be converted into a detached house.

Charlie said the owner was a close friend and gave him permission to use the name in Crewe.

"Not only did he give me the name, but the chef I hired is also from that original location, which brings authentic quality here," Charlie said.

Charlie believes quality food and service will be key to establishing the restaurant in a town where dine-in Chinese options have become less common.

"All of our food is top quality," he said.

"We are still here because we always ensure we have very good kitchen staff and deliver excellent service."

Charlie has 26 years of experience working in kitchens and was previously the main chef at the Crewe premises when it was Gourmet, which he opened in 2006.

Fortune City briefly reopened for three weeks during July and August, but Charlie said many people did not realise it was operating because its online details had not been updated.

The business is now rebuilding its online presence under the Fortune City Chinese restaurant name.

Customers can get 20 per cent off takeaway food from the launch on September 22, while the same discount will be available on all dine-in food throughout October.
