Ever wondered what birds come in and out of your garden?

Sandbach bird lover, David Harrison, makes a note of all the species coming in and out of his garden in Elworth.

And this weekend. the RSPB is inviting nature lovers to take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch which started yesterday Friday (January 26th) and ends on Sunday (January 28th) as revealed here

An RSPB spokesperson said: "Just spend one hour between Friday and Sunday counting the birds, and help monitor how birds are faring.

"It's free, fun and a great way to keep an eye on your local wildlife. Wherever you are, whatever you see, it counts."

Retired engineer, David, is a member of the RSPB and also supplies information to the South Cheshire ornithological.

"Birds which used to migrate during the winter are now staying here as winters are getting milder," he said.

"The whole pattern is changing due to the climate and development of areas with housing."

And it's this changing pattern which the RSPB is keen to note. Anyone can take part in this weekend's Big Garden Watch with all the information available through this link here

David says he's spotted 48 different species of birds in his garden and was delighted to spot a pair of Blackcaps recently, a male and female, wintering his garden.

"It's nice to watch birds coming in and out of the garden. I've set up a laptop so I can watch them."

But it's not just his own garden where David watches bird life – he also looks out for it walking down the local Salt Line or canal network.

"It's very relaxing and a wonderful hobby," he said.
