A Sandbach care home has said it is "putting residents first" with 100 per cent of staff having received the Coronavirus vaccine.

In addition, all residents have now completed both of their vaccinations, putting Elworth Grange in position to become one of the first fully vaccinated homes in the area.

Home Manager, Donna Cowell, said: "As care providers, our team understands the huge responsibility we have to our residents and ensuring their safety from this virus has been of upmost importance throughout. To see a 100% staff uptake of the vaccine just shows the dedication and caring nature of our team.

"Understandably, some were nervous about the jab, but we chatted about their concerns and we had lots of reassuring information and guidance, so they were able to make an informed decision. I am just really proud of them all – the whole team has been amazing throughout the pandemic and having the vaccine is a huge relief."

Figures published today show that more than 800,000 over 70s across the North West have now had two doses of the vaccine.

Jean Smith, 90, who has lived at Elworth Grange for almost seven months, said: "It makes me really happy to know that all of the care team have received their vaccines, it provides peace of mind and hopefully we can begin to regain some normality. I know that some of the team were apprehensive about the jab so I sat with them to provide support just like they did for me when I got mine."

Senior Carer, Lizzie Rodger, who has now completed the full vaccine process, added: "I am so proud of everyone for stepping up and getting vaccinated. I think It is a really positive step forward and I encourage anybody else who gets a letter inviting them to receive theirs to go. It is so quick and painless, and the list of pros far outweighs any cons.

"I feel pleased that I can continue to work knowing that I have done my part to protect the people around me."
