A Sandbach cheese shop has received an award in recognition of their "valuable services to the community".

Godfrey C. Williams and Son, based on the cobbles, received the commendation from the High Sherriff of Cheshire after adapting their services to meet the needs of their customers during the pandemic.

Daniel Williams, the project manager, told Sandbach Nub News: "We have had to adapt a lot over the last 12 months. Everything we've done, such as the home delivery service, has been to help the local community."

The family-run shop has worked with neighbouring independent businesses, such as Gibsons' Greengrocers and Steve Brooks Butchers, on their home deliveries so vulnerable residents did not have to risk leaving home.

In a note accompanying the certificate, the High Sheriff, Nick Hopkins, wrote: "Thank you for all that you are doing during this terrible pandemic and good luck for the future."

Daniel praised Sandbach for how it has pulled together, adding that the town has a "great, thriving, independent business scene".

The shop dedicated the award to their staff for their "hard work and perseverance" over the last year.
