Methodist Church's Superintendent Cheshire South Circuit, Rev Rob Hilton, is recovering after raising more than £6,000 in running the London Marathon for a charity close to his heart.

Rev Rob Hilton, minister for the Church on Ettiley Heath in Elton Road, Ettiley Heath, ran for Brain Tumour Research.

It's a charity that's close to his heart as in 2019, Rev Hilton found out his 20-year-old son, Ned, had a rare childhood brain tumour.

He said: "Within weeks, my wife was also diagnosed with breast cancer. There followed months and months of surgery, radio, and chemotherapy.

"The NHS staff were brilliant and both are now living full and active lives. Underneath all that, the medics did was solid scientific research.

Rev Hilton completed the marathon in five hours 54 minutes

Rev Hilton said on Social Media after the race: "I've realised I never quite put into words that the whole thing for me was an act of thanksgiving - that Ned is so well and has come through it.

"His surgeon said we would one day run marathons and do charity marathons, of course I wrote him off!

"But I ran as a thank you to Mr Kaye and his skill; Ned and I were well cared for by ward staff and cancer charity nurses, I ran as an act of thanksgiving to them, and of course we were over the last three years supported by friends (many through it all from within the church).

"I ran as an act of thanksgiving to all of you. Throughout the whole experience, I was always conscious of the loving presence of God - my marathon was an act of thanksgiving to the God of life and well-being who has given us life and sustains us.

"Not all cancer stories end as positively as ours, thanks for your support, donations are still welcome."

Rev Hilton has set up a JustGiving page for donations which can be found here https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Rob-Hilton2?fbclid=IwAR1EvKpOHVzBShE8Bi2LUtpKppRI45fCd5cUBXORjZPftQC3LGoqBMoHrBQ
