A conservation group founded in 2008 to look after green areas in Sandbach has a new chair.

Alan Sheen has been appointed the new chair of Sandbach Woodland & Wildlife Group (SWWG) taking over from outgoing chair, Jonathan Granger.

The group thanked Jonathan Granger for his excellent work as chair of SWWG over the last five years at its recent annual general meeting.

They also received a report back on the achievements of the past year, including bat surveys, bridge construction and removing Japanese knotweed.

Sam Corcoran, Mayor of Sandbach said: "The SWWG has made a huge difference to Sandbach with some wonderful walks alongside Arclid Brook. It is amazing how peaceful these walks are, despite being so close to Sandbach town centre.

"The working groups are a great way to enjoy being out in nature, meet new people and get some physical exercise whether that's pulling up invasive Himalayan balsam, constructing new paths or heavy work constructing steps, ramps and guardrails and there is always a safety briefing at the start."

Lance Thackray, Secretary of SWWG said "Many people in Sandbach are unaware of the wonderful woodland right on their doorstep, running the whole length of Sandbach following Arclid Brook.

"One of SWWG's main objectives was to raise awareness of this piece of beautiful countryside and to make it accessible.
