Sandbach's MP, Fiona Bruce, has spoken fondly of her colleague, Sir David Amess, who died on Friday.

The MP for Southend West was injured at his constituency surgery on Friday afternoon and later died.

Congleton constituency MP Fiona Bruce has paid tribute to the late 69-year-old, who died in Leigh-on-Sea.

Fiona Bruce has put the following comment on her constituency page:

"Heartfelt prayers for the family of dear friend Sir David Amess; respected by Parliamentarians, dedicated to his constituents and committed to his Christian faith."

Fiona Bruce was appointed as the Prime Minister's Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief in December 2020 and reports directly to the Prime Minister.

The role among other things brings together UK efforts to promote religious tolerance abroad, and works on how the UK government can protect and promote this fundamental freedom internationally.
