Sandbach Gymnastics club had some special visitors at the weekend – the British women's artistic Olympic team in their final preparations for the Paris Olympic Games.

The Millbuck Way club hosted a special event where the national gymnasts took time to chat, sign autographs and pose for photographs with club members.

The women's artistic Olympic team Becky Downie MBE, Alice Kinsella, Georgia-Mae Fenton, Abi Martin and Ruby Evans stepped up their preparations for Paris taking part in a practice control event at the Sandbach club.

Competing alongside Ruby Stacy, Charlotte Booth (Olympic reserves), Abigail Roper, Tilly Wright and Grace Davies, the gymnasts were able to test themselves in a different environment with just two weeks before the Olympians set off for the pre-Games holding camp in Reims.

Sandbach Gymnastics said on Social Media: The two National teams competed in a control competition, judged by Great British International Judges under the watchful eyes of the team coaches and National Staff.

"A big thank you to all the National Gymnasts who made time at the end to chat, sign autographs and pose for many pictures with our club members who were lucky enough to get a ticket. A day I am sure the young gymnasts remember and talk about for a long time.

"Everyone from Sandbach wishes the GB Olympic Team all the best in Paris, hoping you all have a memorable games."

Pete Aldous and the Sandbach team added: "It is absolutely fantastic having the GBR Olympic team and national team members competing in our facility. The gymnasts and coaches were clearly enjoying the team's high spirits and where they are in their preparations.

"Working alongside British Gymnastics, we were able to offer 100 seats to club members and these were snapped up within three minutes of being released.

"It was great to witness the senior gymnasts taking the time to inspire the next generation and it is an honour and privilege to support the Olympic and national team here at Sandbach Gymnastics."

Becky Downie MBE commented: "Sandbach provided us with an exceptional facility this weekend, that allowed the whole team to get together and evaluate our performances before heading to Paris.

"It's always a key part of the preparation phase, gaining competition experience in different environments and the support we have received from Sandbach has been incredible."
