A Sandbach man's long-fought campaign to have a litter bin installed appears to have faltered following a single objection.

John Hough first floated the idea of installing the bin halfway along Park Lane in 2019 after finding there weren't many places to dispose of dog poo.

He said: "I suggested putting one on a lamppost to the right-hand side of Abbeyfields outside my friend's house who also agreed it was a good idea. One person objected, so undemocratically the whole thing got binned."

Over long email exchanges with the council and local representatives, John was informed it was not possible due to budget constraints.

"I highlighted several places in Sandbach where there is more than one bin next to each other, which if relocated, would be cost-neutral. One did get moved from outside Ashfields Surgery but placed on Middlewich Road," Mr Hough said.

He added: "Then I get told they may put one on the grass area on park Lane as it's a different department or planning regulation than a lamppost one.

"35+ emails later and I am beginning to lose the will to live over this. All I am trying to do is improve the cleanliness of Sandbach as there is a real need for a litter bin in this location."

In response, Cheshire East Council told Sandbach Nub News: "We carefully manage the placement of litter bins, seeking to serve the areas where they are most used and in the most convenient locations.

"We always try to respond to requests in a constructive manner and there are times when individual requests cannot always be met. A programme to replace post-mounted bins in Sandbach is planned for the spring, and we trust that this matter will then be resolved."
