A Sandbach man has completed a trek to the Arctic Circle - to raise funds for a charity close to his heart.

By day, Chris can often be seen at work in any of Pear Hospitality's locations, including The Wheatsheaf in Sandbach as well as managing director, Jake Pear.

But whenever he gets a spare moment, Chris volunteers for Cheshire-based The Joshua Tree, a children's cancer charity dedicated to working with families affected by childhood cancers.

He and Jake set off on Wednesday night (January 15th).

Chris is a support volunteer at The Joshua Tree, founded by Lynda and David Hill after their son was diagnosed with leukaemia.

He says he has witnessed "first-hand" the profound impact of childhood cancers.

"The Joshua Tree isn't just a charity - it's a beacon of hope for children battling cancer and their families who navigate the stormy seas of diagnosis, treatment and recovery," he said

"It's a sanctuary where they find solace, support, and strength in the face of adversity.

"But the journey for these children and their families is far from easy. The emotional and financial burdens they carry are immense.

"From the endless hospital visits to the overwhelming medical bills, every day presents a new challenge. That's where The Joshua Tree steps in.

"But we can't do it alone. As much as we wish we could, we can't erase the pain or cure the illness. What we can do, however, is alleviate some of the burdens these families face. And that's where you come in.

"By donating to The Joshua Tree Children's Charity, you're not just giving money; you're giving hope.

"You're giving families the chance to focus on what truly matters - spending precious time together, making memories, and cherishing every moment."

Starting from Rovaniemi in Finland, Chris is on his way to the three-day trek into the Arctic Circle which will push Chris and Jake to their limits.

"Battling the elements, each of us will haul our heavy kit through below freezing temperatures and spend nights under the stars in tents. The 40-mile route will undoubtedly test every ounce of mental and physical endurance," he said previously.

Chris said the opportunity to take part in the Arctic Trek was one he "couldn't pass up" and he is hoping as many people as possible will donate to his JustGiving page here
