A Sandbach man is walking between seven or eight miles a day to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease.

Chartered surveyor, Paul Molley, has taken on the MND January challenge of 15,000 steps a day.

And he's hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity by heading out on local footpaths and the countryside - come rain or shine.

The 62-year-old father-of-one says he's always enjoyed walking and the charity is one close to his heart.

Motor Neurone Disease affects the brain and nerves, causing weakness that gets worse over time. There's no cure but there are various treatments to help reduce the impact.

"Most of us have friends or family who have had or have MND. The onset is very quick and changes a person's life," said Paul.

"If I can have a little bit of pain to help those with MND it's nothing compared with what they are going through," said Paul, from Hind Heath Road.

"I've done various charity walks in the past and I am delighted to take this one on.

"I'm self-employed and my time is short but I'm managing to fit it in around my day, even going out late at night."

He wears an illuminated harness at night and his MND beanie hat so if you see him say hi!

"I'm walking mainly on my own, doing road walks but I'm also going into the Peak District and The Roaches," he said.

"It was fantastic to see Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrows in the New Year Honours list with a CBE, raising yet more awareness for the MND Association.

"It doesn't matter how much or how little you are able to give, every bit will help," said Paul who is hoping to raise at least £750 from the challenge.
