Sandbach Mayor and his wife help support Afghan refugees

By Deborah Bowyer 24th Aug 2021

Sandbach Mayor Cllr Geraint Price Jones and his wife and Mayoral Consort, Mrs Price Jones, have played their part in helping to support the Afghan refugees.

They did a four hour shift today (Tuesday) with members from the Red Cross Emergency Response team from Cheshire, Great Manchester and Merseyside to help sort through donations.

The couple helped volunteers sort through bags of donations at Cheshire East Council's HQ Westfields in Sandbach, including baby clothing, toiletries, toys and bedding.

The members were made welcome by Cheshire East housekeeping and caretaker staff and were provided with tea and coffee during their shift which was part of a 12 hour effort to sort the bags.

Other volunteers worked from 7am – 11 am and from 3pm until 7pm.

Mrs Price Jones told Nub News: "We were delighted to help."
