Sandbach Mayor urges people to rethink about how they travel to tackle congestion
By Deborah Bowyer 24th Aug 2026
Sandbach Mayor, Councillor Sam Corcoran, is urging residents to change their thought patterns about travel and use other forms of transport if at all possible other than cars.
Cllr Corcoran, Cheshire East Council's Environment and Climate Change champion, is urging people to cycle, walk or hop on a bus or train to help reduce traffic congestion.
Walking and cycling also provide health and cost benefits and so does using the bus or the train says the Sandbach Heath town councillor.
His comments come after Sandbach was gridlocked again on Friday (21 August) following two incidents on the M6 near Sandbach as we revealed here.
"It's easy for us to just jump in the car but there are other ways we can travel which not only help reduce climate change but have lots of other benefits," said Cllr Corcoran.
"It is a chicken and egg situation because to do this we need to be able to afford to offer better public transport.
"In essence we need to change the way we use cars and think about using public transport, cycling or walking whenever we can."
The issue, along with others, will be made public at a demonstration in Sandbach about climate change on Saturday (29 August).
The demonstration will take place on The Cobbles at 11 am and all are welcome.
