A Sandbach mum has praised the kindness of a stranger after the Good Samaritan paid for her baby's nappies.

Becca Halden was shopping at Aldi on Middlewich Road when she reached the checkouts and found that her card had been declined.

She told Sandbach Nub News: "It was only £3.48, but my card completely froze because it must have cut off after a certain number of transactions. It basically wouldn't let me put any more money through to the account I needed to pay with.

"I called my mother-in-law [Lisa Halden] and I just asked the cashier to hold my stuff over while I went to the bagging area to see if she could come with the money to pay for it."

A lady behind Becca in the queue overheard her predicament and then kindly offered to pay for the nappies.

"I said 'you don't have to, it's fine' and the woman replied, 'seriously, it's fine, I just want to pay it forward,'" Becca added.

Lisa, Becca's mother-in-law, said: "I know the people of Sandbach are like that because we always get people helping us out with fundraising for families in need. It was nice this time that it was one of my own who were helped out.

"Sandbach is like it was in the old times, when it was all one big community."

Becca said the kind gesture made her "very emotional".

She added: "I've never had someone step forward like that. It was Harry's nappies, so it meant more than just a few quid, it felt more like £10 or £20 and it saved me from having to deal with a big pile of baby poo."

Lisa highlighted the kind act in a post to a local Facebook group, which has attracted over 660 likes so far.

It was under the post that the Good Samaritan identified herself as Nicky Armstrong, who commented: "It was a pleasure to help after hearing her on the phone. I'd always hope that someone would do the same if I was in the same situation."
