Sandbach is on Lidl's potential list of new supermarket locations as the chain looks to expand to a total of 1,000 stores around the UK.

The town has made the supermarket's longlist of areas in which it is considering opening new stores, after being named in a new brochure discussing its expansion plans and search for sites around the UK.

Other local potential sites named in the brochure include Congleton, Cheadle, Crewe, Macclesfield, Alsager and Biddulph.

The supermarket chain has more than 20 new stores opening so far this year, and has set itself a 1,000 store milestone in the UK by end of 2023, with around 860 stores currently open, meaning 140 new stores are targeted within the next couple of years.

However, it's important to note that Lidl's intentions to open in Sandbach are by no means guaranteed to go ahead, with the current list only indicating towns that the supermarket feels has the right requirements to open a new store.

The store says it is looking to acquire sites that meet its standard store format requirements - prominent locations with easy access and strong pedestrian or traffic flow. Freehold, leasehold or long leasehold opportunities.

They say unit sizes of between 18,000 and 26,500 sq ft and 100+ dedicated car parking spaces. Town centre or edge of centre and retail parks.
