Sandbach organisation thrown into chaos after three remaining officers resign

By Deborah Bowyer 1st Mar 2022

The future of a Sandbach voluntary and community led organisation working with local groups is in abeyance after its three remaining officers all resigned.

Sandbach Partnership, formed around 19 years ago, held its AGM at Sandbach Enterprise Centre in Wesley Avenue on yesterday (Monday).

But all three remaining officers, including its chair, Keeley Todd, and vice-chair, Sue Wood, have handed in their resignations leaving its future in limbo while forum members try to pull together a new management team.

Chair, Keeley Todd, delivered a report to the packed meeting unveiling all that the partnership had achieved during the last 12 months.

Mrs Todd said she no longer felt in a position to continue her voluntary role for a number of reasons but would continue volunteering but not under the partnership banner.

She said: "I have been the subject of various forms of harassment from people.

"I will honour any commitment we currently have but I am no longer feel it right to continue as chair."

Nub News understands the forum now has a set time to form a new management commitment to keep the partnership going.

The partnership's previous longstanding chair, Dot Flint, was at the meeting and spoke about Craig Bayley, one of the group's two vice chairs, who recently died.

A minute's silence was held at the meeting in honour of Craig.

Dot told Sandbach Nub News afterwards: "I am very saddened and disappointed that we have got to this.

"I fought long and hard for this organisation. Sandbach has lost something really special."

Sandbach was one of sixteen towns in the North West involved in the Market Town Initiative Fund which was allocated to support rural recovery.

The aim of the funding was to set up a voluntary partnership supported by a full-time officer to deliver a plan with suitable projects to access the funding.

Sandbach Partnership has run various annual initiatives, including the Sandbach Tree of Light, Sandbach Partnership Youth Forum, Spooky Saturday and the recreation of the Friends of Sandbach Cemetery.
