Rail passengers were on track yesterday – thanks to Friends of Sandbach Station who provided a right royal welcome.

The volunteer group which provides support to the station, making it look brighter through various projects, greeted passengers with something different – a cuppa and a biscuit!

Volunteers had their monthly coffee and tea stall outside the station giving passengers the chance to pick up a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit at £1 a cup.

John Scarrott, chair of the Friends of Sandbach Station (FOSS) said:"It was great to see people buying a drink on their way to the train on the Queen's Jubilee weekend.

"We've raised more than £30 for FOSS on a Bank Holiday weekend which is wonderful and we'll be doing it again next month."

Elsewhere, Sandbach partied as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations which saw the big Party at the Palace.

A group of residents in Wheelock got together and threw a party on the front of their homes which included glorious food and the show-topping official pudding for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee – a lemon and amaretti  Swiss royal  triffle.
