Rail travellers using the Manchester Piccadilly line this morning (Tuesday) are being warned there may be delays following an incident near Sandbach.

British Transport Police say they were called to Holmes Chapel following concerns for the welfare of a person 'in a precarious position'.

A tweet on Social Media from British Transport Police said: "This person has now been taken to a place of safety and lines are reopening.

"Please do continue to check before travelling, as there may be some ongoing disruption."

Local residents in the Holmes Chapel area also reported a helicopter in the area as well as a road closure.
