Sandbach Rugby Club has launched a new campaign to keep the club at the top of its game - both on and off the field.

The popular club has been an important part of the town for many generations and organisers are aiming to ensure this trend continues.

Not content with the club's envious sporting record, organisers of Sandbach RUFC have launched 20:20 > B4L .

The campaign aims to have 20 people involved in the club from each age group when their cohort reaches 20 years old.

Club secretary, Woody Barlow, said: "From 20 we want to nurture member's relationships with the club, to become 'lifers' with Sandbach RUFC.

"We want to ensure people feel they are invested for life, however invested they want to be, and part of the rugby family," said Woody.

"We provide opportunities for everyone to get involved in whatever capacity whether it be playing, volunteering or simply coming to the club."

Woody has been playing rugby since he was 16 years old and now aged 49, he often plays in the fourth team.

"The club is an important part of the local community whether it be for holding an event whatever that is," he said.

"We calculated recently the number of volunteering hours in a year for the club and it amounted to 34,000 hours."

The club has a thriving youth section and Woody says starting a ladies' team is in the plan along with improvements to the clubhouse.

"We want to remain part of the community. Our pitches and grounds are as good as any in the North West."

Sandbach RUFC, based in Bradwall Road, has players who go on to play professional rugby.

"What's happened on the pitch is amazing. We want this to continue and for the club to prosper for many years to come," said Woody.

"We're situated right on the fringe of the town but very much part of the town."
