Sandbach station enters Cheshire Best Kept Station competition

By Deborah Bowyer 29th Mar 2022

A community group which looks after Sandbach Station is hoping to strike lucky in this year's Cheshire Best Kept Stations awards.

A special awards evening takes place on Friday (April 1st) at the Grange Theatre in Hartford.

The awards evening was due to take place in January but had to be postponed due to Covid fears.

Sandbach station has been entered in an art category and members of the Friends of Sandbach Station (FOSS) are keeping their fingers crossed.

John Scarrott, FOSS chairman said: "We're keeping our fingers crossed we get something but nothing is certain.

"We've entered an art category but there are other awards that you don't have to enter to get an award."

A spokesperson for the award organisers said: "It was disappointing to have to postpone the event on 25th January in the face of the deteriorating Covid situation.

"We now believe that 1st April will be a suitable time to bring volunteers, the railway industry and civic leaders together for our annual celebration of the good work at Cheshire's stations.

"For those that are unable to join us, the event will be live streamed on our YouTube channel from 8.00 pm."
