Voters in one Sandbach ward go to the polls next month (April) in a Sandbach Town Council by-election.

Candidates are vying for one seat on the town council's Town Ward which became vacant when former Town Ward councillor David Jack resigned.

Town Ward has three candidates standing for the vacant seat – John Arnold (Labour) Michelle Hough (Liberal Democrats) and David Poole (Independent).

Both Sandbach Town Council and Cheshire East Council are Labour controlled. The by-election takes place on Thursday, April 21st.

Polling stations will open at 7am and voters will be able to cast their votes until 10pm.

Sandbach Town Council is made up of 20 councillors across four wards - Town Ward, Sandbach Heath and East Ward, Ettiley Heath and Wheelock Ward and Elworth Ward.

Councillors are elected by public vote every four years. Any vacancies occurring outside of the four yearly election may be filled by co-option or a by-election.

The winning candidate in the Town Ward by-election will join the four current Town Ward councillors – Cllr Ann Nevitt (Conservative), Cllr John Beddows (Labour), Cllr Steve Kirkham (Conservative) and Cllr Alan Smith (Labour).
