"The Councillors' Surgery due to take place on Saturday has also been postponed.

Thank you for understanding and supporting."

Sandbach Town Hall was lit up in purple last night following the sad news and will continue during the period of mourning.

Sandbach Mayor, Councillor Kathryn Flavell said: "We at Sandbach Town Council are incredibly saddened to hear the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"For most of us, Elizabeth has reigned for all of our lives and it is difficult to imagine life without her as our Head of State.

"An unparalleled monarch, she has served the people of this country, and of the Commonwealth, with dignity and humility, and her loss will be profoundly felt.

"Our thoughts and condolences go to the new King and his family at this sad time."
