The Sunday night drama 'Call the Midwife' is a favourite among many viewers but there's one Sandbach woman who will be watching it more closely this weekend than others.

Ruth Carney, who lives in Sandbach Heath, is a TV director and directed this week's episode (February 9th) together with another episode.

The talented director will be glued to her TV tomorrow night (Sunday) when the first episode she directed airs on TV with one of her favourite actresses - Jenny Agutter.

She said: "I had a great story for my episodes. I did enjoy directing it. Set in 1970 it's about the bin strikes and how this effects the community and also a race story line

"Working with Jenny Agutter was a highlight as she's a living legend."

But Ruth is no stranger to directing hit shows. She has worked on Waterloo Road, Brassic to mname a few and has just shot her first feature film.

Before all this, she spent 10 weeks on the beautiful Caribbean island of Guadeloupe a while back shooting epsiodes for the TV drama, Death in Paradise.

Ruth, who did an MA in Theatre Directing in Russia and Middlesex after her degree at the University of Sheffield, Said previously: "It was such a beautiful place. It's such an unspoilt island and was an amazing place to work.

For Ruth's two episodes which she directed one revolved around a game of chess while the other has a "reggae rap" – applicable as Ruth relaxes to music when she's not working.

Death in Paradise, the latest series, Series 14, began airing last Friday night (January 31st).
