Sandbach United Football Club face a local derby today when they play next door neighbours Alsager Town FC at home.

The Ramblers will be wearing their blue and yellow strip in support of Ukraine when they head out on to the Hind Heath Road pitch at 3pm.

Sandbach United's first team manager, Declan Swan said: "We're massively looking forward to this one.

"It obviously adds a little bit more into the mix with it being a derby and we know what it means to the fans to win games like these.

"Going off the back of last week's victory, the lads are confident and we are looking forward to it.

"We just hope that the fans can make it down in numbers this weekend, show their support and be rewarded with a strong performance."

Terry Greer, Alsager Town FC's chairman is also looking forward to today's game.

"It's always a difficult game with it being a local derby," he said.

"We need to pick up the points. We hope it's a good game and we get a result."

But it's not just the players who will be remembering Ukraine today - spectactors have a chance to show their support too.

Sandbach United has set up a collection to help Ukrainian people and are asking fans to bring items they would like to donate.

The club is asking for items such as sleeping bags, gloves, thermal socks, nappies, baby wipes, shampoo, toothpaste and tooth brushes, female hygiene products, torches with batteries.

A spokesperson said: "All items should be new and in packaging. Food items should have a 12 month shelf life.

"If every fan brought one item, we could have an additional 150-200 items to send."
