Sandbach United Football Club's diversity and inclusion officer, Liz Clark, has been shortlisted for a top sports award.

Liz, who has volunteered at the Hind Heath Road club for a while, has been shortlisted for the Volunteer of the Year in the Everybody Awards 2022.

The club stalwart spends much of her spare time volunteering at the club and developed the girls' section plus a range of other initiatives.

Sandbach United Football Club is the Cheshire branch of CP United – a club specifically for children and adults with Cerebral Palsy or a brain injury.

Sessions have been set up to give people locally an opportunity to play in an inclusive environment.

Liz said she was surprised but delighted to be shortlisted. "It's come out of the blue. I am so proud and feel honoured," she added.

"This is not just for me it's a credit to all the amazing volunteers who help out at our community football club."

Everybody Health and Leisure run 16 leisure facilities throughout Cheshire East, including Sandbach Leisure Centre.

They say they received an "amazing" number of nominations for the 2022 awards which take place at Crewe Hall on October 7th.

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson is hosting the awards and the keynote speech will be delivered Michael 'Eddie' Edwards aka Eddie the Eagle.

Andrew Kolker, Everybody Health and Leisure chairman said:

"The nominations from our local sporting, activity and health heroes, as well as organisations, showed the exceptional ddedication, innovation and true community spirit of our Cheshire East nominees to achieve success and support to inspire others.

"We couldn't be prouder of all the nominees this year."
