Sandbach lit up in memory of those who had taken part in the pivotal D-Day landings

Crowds gathered for the wreath laying and beacon lighting ceremony in Sandbach last night (Thursday).

Vicar of St Mary's Church, Bee Boyde, led a service at the war memorial which included speeches given by young people from the military, sport and girl guides.  

The bells rang out at St Mary's Church before there was a march on the Market Square and a service at 9 pm with the Last Post by Mark Wilkinson from Foden's Band. 

Dignitaries laid wreaths at the War Memorial before everyone waiting for the lighting of the beacon on the top of St Mary's Church at 9.15 pm by Sandbach fire station.
