Local MP pushes for improvements to rail links and accessibility at Sandbach station
By Deborah Bowyer 23rd Jan 2026
Sandbach's MP, Sarah Russell, has pledged her support for improvements to the local rail network.
And she's brought up the subject of improving accessibility at Sandbach station which makes accessing platforms in a wheelchair difficult.
The Congleton MP, whose constituency includes Sandbach, says 'everyone deserves a railway that works for them'.
She said: "Last week, in Parliament, the plans for the £45 billion investment into our railways was announced and I raised the need for better services train stations across the entire constituency.
"I will keep pushing for improvements so that our community gets the reliable transport it deserves."
There has been an on-going campaign to make Sandbach station more accessible to those using wheelchairs and pushchairs for many years by installing a lift.

Disabled passengers currently only have easy access to Platform 2 at the station unless they can negotiate a bridge to Platform 2.
This means that those in a wheelchair have no option other than to get the train to Crewe then come back on themselves to get on to the Manchester Piccadilly line.
