A Sandbach school is celebrating after one of its pupils has won a silver medal in sport – snowboarding.

Sixteen-year-old Mia Brookes, a pupil at Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College, has been snowboarding since she was 18 months old.

Now she is the proud holder of a silver medal at the first slopestyle event of the year in Laax, Switzerland.

Ellen Walton, headteacher at the Middlewich Road school said: "We're incredibly proud of Mia's success. She's a trailblazer and represents our student body so brilliantly well."

Mia is now in Aspen, Colorado for the Winter X Games where was invited to join Olympic female athletes before she competes in the Slopestyle World Cup in Mammoth, California.
