Secret family recipe takes first place at Nantwich Show for Sandbach cafe
By Deborah Bowyer 7th Aug 2026
A Sandbach cafe has won first place for two of its homemade bakes at the Nantwich Show, one produced using a secret recipe passed down through four generations of the same family.
And the cafe, Sally's Cafe in Green Street, picked up second place and third place for two other entries in the produce section at the recent show.
Avid baker, Janet Parkin, helps daughter Beverley Parkin, at Sally's Cafe and loves baking so much that she makes cakes and savoury items for the shop.
Janet won first place for her jam filled sandwich cake and first place for cheese scones in the produce section.

She also won third place for another jam filled sandwich entry and third place for a Battenburg cake entry.
Janet said: "I'm a self-taught baker but have always loved baking. I do various variations of the sponge recipe including a chocolate, lemon and coffee one. It's been passed down through four generations."
She joked: "It's a secret recipe I'm afraid. All I can say is it's a very light sponge with a good texture!"
