Ten independent Sandbach eateries given five-star food hygiene ratings

Ten local eateries and shops have been given five-star food hygiene ratings recently by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
Working in partnership with local authorities, the FSA scheme gives businesses a rating from zero to five. A five-star review means the venue's hygiene standards are 'very good' and fully comply with the law.
To get the top rating, businesses must do well in the following three elements of an inspection:
- How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
- The physical condition of the business – including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities
- How the business manages ways of keeping food safe, looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained. The officer can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future.
If the top rating is not given, the inspection officer will explain to the business what needs to change.
The following ten businesses were among those to receive five star hygiene ratings since March 2025.
The businesses are:
- CW11 Burger (17 Middlewich Road)
- G.C. Williams & Son (9 Market Square)
- Hotspot (11 High Street)
- La Maternelle (1 Dalton Court)
- Noughts and Crosses Pizza (19 Middlewich Road)
- Paps Peri Peri (5 Bold Street)
- Park Lane Deli (175 Crewe Road)
- Shampaan (504 Crewe Road)
- Swan and Chequers (16 Hightown)
- Top of the Hill Chip Shop (74 The Hill)

Local councils decide how regularly local businesses are inspected with gaps between visits varying from six months to over two years.
Those that "pose a higher risk" to public health are inspected more frequently.
