May half-term is approaching and there's a special discount for families
By The Editor 7th May 2026
Families are being offered discounts on holiday clubs this May half-term thanks to the Sports Coaching Group.
During some holidays children get access to free clubs and free food through the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme.
Children are usually eligible for HAF if they receive income/benefits-related free school meals.
But HAF, which is funded by the Department for Education via local councils, is not available during the May holidays.
To help families which normally qualify for HAF, Cheshire-based Sports Coaching Group is offering additional support by providing a discounted rate of £14 a day for May holiday clubs, a saving on the full price of £14.
This will ensure children can still access structured activities in a safe and engaging environment during the holiday from May 26-29.
The initiative is exclusively available to children who have previously attended one of the organisation's HAF-funded programmes, ensuring continued support for those already known to the service.
Each day will feature a wide range of activities designed to keep children active, social, and engaged throughout the school holidays.
While the sessions mirror the structure and energy of the HAF programme, it is important to note that lunch will not be included as part of this discounted offer.
Charlie Chorlton, Commercial Director for Sports Coaching Group said the initiative aims to bridge the gap for families who rely on HAF provision during school holidays.
"We understand that the May half-term can present challenges without the HAF programme in place. This offer is about continuing that support and giving children the opportunity to stay active, have fun, and be part of a positive environment."
Parents and carers wishing to take advantage of the offer are required to email the bookings team by 3pm on the day prior to attendance.
This allows the admin team to confirm eligibility and secure spaces, which are expected to be in high demand.

The scheme reflects the organisation's ongoing commitment to supporting families beyond funded provision periods.
