Spring has sprung - turn over a new chapter with a book
The clocks have changed and we've finally arrived in Spring - the season filled with birdsong, yellow daffodils, and lambs bleating in the fields ...or so literature would have you believe.
Sometimes Spring can be unpredictable, you can be sunburnt on Friday and have to dig out your scarf on Monday!
If you've dared to take the cover off the barbeque, it's already waterlogged, so it only feels right to grumble about the British weather.
But there's one thing we love more than the national pastime of complaining about the rain, and that's talking about our favourite books.
Cheshire East's library staff have selected some more great reads for you to enjoy, this time all on the theme of Spring.
There is wildlife galore, criminals on the run, and enlightenment with Buddhist principles - what more could you ask for while you wait for the puddles to evaporate from the patio?
Here are their picks:
The Last Snow by Stina Jackson Early spring has its icy grip on Ødesmark, a small village in northernmost Sweden, abandoned by many of its inhabitants. But Liv Bjørnlund never left. She lives in a derelict house together with her teenage son, Simon, and her ageing father, Vidar. They make for a peculiar family, and Liv knows that they are cause for gossip. Just why has Liv stayed by her domineering father's side all these years? And is it true that Vidar is sitting on a small fortune? April in Spain by John Banville When Dublin pathologist Quirke glimpses a familiar face while on holiday with his wife, it's hard, at first, to tell whether his imagination is just running away with him. Could she really be who he thinks she is, and have a connection with a crime that nearly brought ruin to an Irish political dynasty?Unable to ignore his instincts, Quirke makes a call back home and Detective St John Strafford is soon dispatched to Spain.
But he's not the only one on route: as a terrifying hitman hunts down his prey, they are all set for a brutal showdown.
To die in Spring by Ralf Rothmann
Walter Urban and Friedich 'Fiete' Caroli work side by side as hands on a dairy farm in northern Germany. By 1945, it seems the War's worst atrocities are over.
When they are forced to 'volunteer' for the SS, they find themselves embroiled in a conflict which is drawing to a desperate, bloody close. Walter is put to work as a driver for a supply unit of the Waffen-SS, while Fiete is sent to the front.
Spring comes to Emmerdale by Pamela Bell
'Spring Comes to Emmerdale' is a must for fans of ITV's Emmerdale, and readers who love heartwarming and heartbreaking stories set during wartime, alike.
World War I wages on, and the families of Emmerdale are trying their best to move on from tragedy, while the effects of war still resonate throughout the village of Beckindale.
Though grief and loss permeate, Maggie Sugden, Rose Haywood and the other inhabitants of the village are finding independence, the chance to make their own happiness - and even opening themselves up to find love.
