Stroke group founder launches new event in Sandbach in memory of her late father
The founder of an organisation set up to help stroke survivors is holding a special event in Sandbach in memory of her father who has sadly died.
Liz Bedson set up the Stroke Survivors Speech and Language group in 2018 - to help her late father 'Popsy' Colin Miller after he had a stroke.
Now six years later, there are three branches in total – one in Crewe, one in Sandbach and another in Alsager and the opening of a new one in Nantwich is on the horizon.
In August, Liz is holding a 'Founder's Father Celebration Day' in memory of her 87-year-old father who sadly died recently and other members of the three groups no longer alive.
Liz has written to businesses and organisations in the area asking if they could help contribute to the day which will take place at Sandbach Rugby Club in Bradwall Road.
And she has also set up a JustGiving page to raise money for the event on August 30th which will include food and entertainment from 6 pm until 11 pm.
"It is with our utmost regret to announce the death of the founder's father, Colin Miller, Popsy," Liz said.
"To commemorate Colin's life and other stroke survivors who are no longer with us and who have used our three groups, we're holding a Founder's Father Celebration Day.
"Due to our group receiving no statutory funding and the importance of this occasion, we are asking if you could support this event by a donation of funds in remembering Popsy and other stroke survivors.
"We hope to invite the families that we have supported in the past along with our current survivors, friends, families and other guests.
"We really would appreciate your support in this momentous occasion and hope that you can send us a donation, however small."
Liz, who lives in Crewe, said: "The group was set up to empower stroke survivors to recover, reclaim and rebuild their lives after stroke. Our aim is to eliminate social isolation for people who are at their most vulnerable.
"We give emotional support, assistance with well-being and the opportunity to make new friends with people who have experienced the trauma of a stroke.
"We also encourage essential trips/events/guests as part of a survivor's well-being, future development, and social contact.
"Our provision is different to other groups as we provide a dedicated quiet location to enable our survivors to hear and concentrate on engaging activities without interruption - an essential part of healing.
"The range of activities we deliver follow key guidelines that are found to benefit and encourage stroke survivors with their unique difficulties. We want them to feel that they matter and are valued as members of our community."
