Congleton's new criminal investigation department has enjoyed a successful start to life.

Six months ago, Congleton Local Policing Unit, which covers Sandbach and Alsager, formed its own dedicated Pro-active CID.

Cheshire Police say the team has had a 'significant impact' on the area, tackling serious and organised crime, disrupting drug supply networks, bringing prolific offenders to justice, and safeguarding local communities.

Eastern area crime manager, Detective Chief Inspector Dave Worthington, said: "The team of four detectives work under the leadership of DS Jim Hewitt and are clearly punching above their weight with the size of the team and the results they have had so far.

"The team's achievements are a testament to the dedication, professionalism, investigative expertise, and collaborative approach demonstrated by every member.

"Through intelligence-led operations, meticulous investigations, and effective partnership working, officers have secured substantial custodial sentences, dismantled county lines operations, and removed high-harm offenders from the streets."

From drug dealers to burglars, over the past six months the team have brought six offenders to justice totalling 10 and a half years in prison.

A further six defendants are going through the court process in relation to drug dealing and burglary.

DCI Worthington added: "The team's dedication has resulted in the disruption of county lines and drug supply operations, significant quantities of Class A and Class B drugs being take off the streets and criminal assets identified and seized.

"The team are continuing in their efforts to protect communities across Congleton, Sandbach and the wider Eastern area and we expect to see more defendants in court over the coming months.

"I hope it reassures residents that between CID and response and local beat officers we are collectively helping to make your towns safer to live and work in across the eastern area."
