Sandbach's famous Wheatsheaf looks set to expand - after its owners announced they have bought the old NatWest Bank building next door.

NatWest in Hightown closed in February 2022 and since then it has been empty but The Pear Hospitality Group, owners of The Wheatsheaf, have revealed they have bought it.

And Pear Hospitality say one of the immediate plans is to provide "an improved and enlarged car park".

In a message on Social Media said Jake Pear, Managing Director of The Pear Hospitality Group said: "This landmark building, situated adjacent to our renowned venue, The Wheatsheaf, marks a significant expansion for our esteemed group.

"The Wheatsheaf has long been a cherished destination within The Pear Hospitality Group, and the strategic purchase of the neighbouring property is poised to enhance the overall experience for our guests.

"One of the immediate benefits includes the development of an improved and enlarged car park, addressing the growing demand for convenient and accessible parking.

"The property also opens doors to the creation of additional hotel rooms for The Wheatsheaf.

"This expansion aligns with our commitment to providing unparalleled comfort and accommodation options for visitors seeking a memorable stay in Sandbach.

"While we are keeping the plans for the ground floor of the former NatWest Bank under wraps for now, we can assure our guests and the community that an exciting announcement is on the horizon.

"The Pear Hospitality Group is dedicated to delivering exceptional experiences, and this upcoming revelation will undoubtedly contribute to the vibrancy and allure of Sandbach.

"We are thrilled about the acquisition of the former Natwest Bank, a property with immense potential that perfectly complements our existing gem, The Wheatsheaf.

"This expansion allows us to further enhance the overall experience for our guests, and we are particularly excited about the possibilities for the ground floor."
