Motorists still face delays northbound on the M6 today(Tuesday) following a five-vehicle collision.

The M6 northbound was closed for several hours following the accident involving four HGVs and a tanker at around 4 am.

Now police say only one lane will be open while three lanes are resurfaced.

The accident involved four HGVs and a tanker at around 4 am between J18 and J19.

One person is believed to have sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Stoke Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

A Cheshire police spokesperson said: "All of the vehicles have now been recovered from the scene and the incident has now been passed to Highways England.

"Following assessment, it has been found that three lanes of the carriageway will need to be resurfaced, therefore only one lane is open at the current time

"Highways are working to complete the work as quickly as possible, however the lane closures are expected to remain in place throughout rush hour and into the evening.

"Therefore, police are continuing to urge motorists to avoid the area if possible."
