Cheshire is renowned for its lovely countryside and green spaces and this includes the Sandbach area which has once again been recognised in the Green Flag awards.

Sandbach Park, Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve and Fountain Fields, Middlewich have all been awarde the prestigious Green Flag Award, recognising their exceptional quality, condition, and cleanliness.

Cheshire East is proud to announce that 11 of its parks and green spaces have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award, recognising their exceptional quality, condition, and cleanliness.

In addition, three of the borough's iconic sites: Tatton Park, Congleton Park, and Queens Park have once again retained their esteemed Green Heritage Site status, celebrating their historical significance and outstanding management of particular historic features.

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

The Green Flag Award is an international quality 'kitemark' for parks and green spaces and is a benchmark standard for the management of green spaces in the UK and around the world.

Councillor David Jefferay, chair of Cheshire East Council's environment and communities committee, said: "We're incredibly proud and this reflects the hard work and dedication of our officers, volunteers and 'friends' of parks groups.

"Their commitment plays a vital role in keeping our parks welcoming and an enjoyable outdoor space for everyone, so well done and a big thank you to all involved.

"These awards demonstrate the pride our communities take in caring for our local environment. From planting wildflowers to enjoying our green spaces with family, every action contributes to the success we're celebrating today.

"We are very lucky to have an abundance of parks and green spaces in Cheshire East, giving residents the opportunity to explore nature and wildlife to enrich wellbeing."

In Cheshire East, 11 Green Flags have been awarded to and retained by:

• Bollington Recreation Ground;
• Brereton Heath Local Nature Reserve;
• Congleton Park;
• Fountain Fields, Middlewich;
• Macclesfield Riverside Park;
• Milton Park, Alsager;
• Queens Park, Crewe;
• Sandbach Park;
• Tatton Park, Knutsford;
• Tegg's Nose Country Park, Macclesfield and
• The Moor, Knutsford

Keep Britain Tidy's Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd MBE, said: "I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Cheshire East Council for achieving these Green Flag Awards.

"All parks and countryside reserves are vital green spaces for the community in bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles.
