Organisers of an annual equestrian occasion near Sandbach have been forced to cancel it - due to heavy rainfall in the lead up to the event.

Bradwall Manor Horse Trials, which attracts top riders from all over the country, was due to take place this weekend on Saturday and Sunday (April 27th – 28th).

But organisers say persistent rainfall left them with "no option" but to cancel the popular two-day event.

A statement said: "All the team at Bradwall Manor are extremely disappointed to have to abandon this year's event.

"Following persistent rainfall, it has been impossible to get onto the course to carry out the preparations needed to go forward with the event.

"It has been a very hard decision and not one taken lightly, however the weather has left us with no option."

They added that refunds for the event were in hand saying: "After finalising our figures, we are going to be able to refund competitors 80 per cent of their entry fee instead of the 60 per cent that is stated in the rule book.

"The weather finally looks like it is going to stop raining and we wish everyone good luck for the rest of the season."

Sandbach Nub News told here how the major equestrian occasion features food outlets and country clothing stalls to tempt visitors going to watch the event.

The event centres around Bradwall Manor and is family-run by the Barlow family. Current organisers, Jeremy and Miranda Barlow took over the reins from Jeremy's mother, Anne Barlow.

Last year the event had 534 entries, the biggest it's ever had with more than 200 volunteers helping.
