A wreath dedicated to a Sandbach soldier who died fighting alongside Ukrainian forces again Russian invaders has been laid at the town's War Memorial.

Jordan Gatley, a former pupil of Sandbach School, was shot and killed in the city of Severodonetsk, Ukraine in June.

A wreath in memory of the 24-year-old was laid at the War Memorial in Market Square by his family.

It reads: "A precious son, a much-loved big brother and a special friend to many.

"We will remember you today and always."

Jordan left the British Army in March this year to continue his career as a soldier in other areas.

He was a pupil at Sandbach School before leaving to attend Reaseheath College in Nantwich to study public services.

One friend said: "Remembrance Day definitely feels different this year.

"Today we should remember Jordan and the other heroes whose lives were cut short way too soon through their service and bravery."

Jordan's funeral service took place in August at St Mary's Church, Nantwich before a crematorium in Crewe.
