The funeral of a Sandbach Rugby Club legend who has sadly died takes place today (Friday).

Robin Astle was chairman of Sandbach RUFC from 2009 until 2016, overseeing a period of growth in the club. He, as the 1st XV made their way to the National Leagues, a level they still retain.

His funeral takes place at St Oswald's Church, Brereton at 2 pm and afterwards at Sandbach RUFC in Bradwall Road.

The club described Robin, who sadly lost his battle with the rare but serious condition amyloidosis, as "a true character of the club" and "influential in so many ways".

The family says anyone who was lucky enough to know Robin is welcome to come along and help them celebrate his incredible life.

Sandbach RUFC members are encouraged to wear club colours (including stripy blazers), if they wish. There are family flowers only with donations to St. Oswald's Church.
