A Sandbach Turkish barber shop owner and his staff have launched an appeal to raise money to help the people of Turkey affected by the devastation caused by the recent earthquakes.

Vedat Tarhan, who owns Vedat Turkish Barbers in Penda Way, and his staff are donating all the takings from tomorrow's appointments (Saturday) to the Turkish appeal.

The business owner has set up donation boxes on the counter of the popular business to receive donations to help those in Turkey who have been affected.

And a second shop in the town, Iceland, is putting out collection boxes for the appeal tomorrow (Saturday) and has donated a crate of snacks or customers and staff for tomorrow's big event.

Iceland employee, Sam Dyde and Jordan Brown (pictured below), dropped off a crate of food today for the Penda Way shop to use during tomorrow's fundraising event.

"It's so sad to hear what has happened. The food is a little something to help Vedat, his staff and customers tomorrow during the day.

"We'll be putting collection buckets out at Iceland in the High Street to people to make donations for Turkey. We just want to help as much as we can."

A balloon business dropped off balloons with the Turkish flag on and customers have been putting money into the collection boxes.

"People have been fantastic and so generous," said Vedat. "Too many people have died and the situation is bad.

"We're doing all we can to help. There will be three of us working tomorrow and donating everything to this appeal. We'll do all we can to help."

A series of earthquakes have hit Turkey and Syria killing more than 17,000 people and injuring many thousands more.

People have been left without shelter in freezing winter conditions, with humanitarian needs expected to grow in the coming days.
