Handmade blankets will soon be off to help families in war-torn Ukraine – thanks to talented members of a Sandbach group.

Wheelock Congregational Church's 'Knit and Natter, Crochet and Chatter' group is donating a table full of blankets to Ukraine.

The blankets have been crocheted and knitted by the group which meets at the church in Crewe Road every third Wednesday of the month.

Sandbach Nub News told here how more than 20 people turned up at to the inaugural meeting in February.

The group is led by Lynn Morris and Lena Porter and has many members, including Sandbach Mayor, Councillor Laura Crane, who attends whenever she is able to.

Lynn Morris, who lives in Alsager, said the response to provide blankets f0r the Ukraine has been enormous.

"We have so many members, including our vicar, the Rev Clifford Millington and his wife Sandra.

"It's been such a project and those who haven't knitted or crocheted them have helped sew them together.

"We're so grateful to everyone who has taken part."

Now the group, which is always looking for donations of wool, knitting needles and crochet hooks, is poised to start work on another project.

"I would like us to start making hats for premature babies at local hospitals," said Lynn.
