Sandbach Nub News aims to support our community, promoting shops, businesses, charities, clubs and sports groups.
We will be profiling some of these businesses, organisations and interesting Sandbachians regularly in a feature called 'UP CLOSE in Sandbach.'
Today we caught up with Callam Thomson of Precision Dance Academy .
The Sandbach dance school is gearing up to welcome back its adult students later this month as lockdown restrictions ease further.
Precision Dance Academy was established in Sandbach around three years ago by Callam Thomson who was keen to carry on the family legacy.
Callam, who moved to Sandbach six years ago from Skipton, Yorkshire, has grown up with dance as his parents had their own dance school.
He told Sandbach Nub News: "After I finished my professional dance career, I decided to open up the dance school and we've just gone from there.
"We've already had children and adults competing at local events as well as at the Winter Garden in Blackpool, so it's going really well even though we're just a young school."
Callam says the dance school has proved popular with locals as well as people from as far as Birmingham and Ireland who travel in "because of our experience".
Pupils from Offley Primary School have been among the local kids to try their hand at the Foxtrot and Quikstep.
The lockdown has meant classes have been virtual in recent months, but children were able to return to the dancefloor in April.
Callam, who is a 12 times British champion, said: "When the kids came back they were a little bit timid, which you can understand after not seeing many people for such a long time.
"Over the last few weeks, we've noticed how through dancing they've been able to come out of themselves and be a bit cheekier, like their normal selves."
In line with the government's road map out of lockdown, adults should be able to attend the indoor dance classes from 17 May, with social distancing in place.
Callam says the popular BBC show 'Strictly Come Dancing' has increased the number of adults joining dance schools like his over the years.
He said: "It's nice to see how people start and then grow in confidence and want to learn more information, more steps and more dances. It's great to see how the love for it has grown over time."
As well as impressing relatives on the dancefloor at the next family wedding, Callam says students get numerous benefits from the classes.
"Of course, it helps health wise, because you're keeping active but it also helps a lot with self confidence for people of all ages because you're going into a room and doing something different that you may never have done before," he said.
He added: "You also get to express yourself through your body and show some creativity that you may never have known you had."
