And Frankie is in her element, for the avid fitness fan who is training for the Manchester marathon, is doing what she loves best - fitness.

"I love health and fitness. It doesn't feel like a job. I'm doing what I enjoy which is helping others to exercise and stay fit," she said.

"No two days are the same. Sandbach Leisure Centre has a lovely atmosphere and I believe if you're friendly, customers will keep coming back. "I'm learning so much and I love my job, whether it's being poolside in the pool or helping out in the gym.

"It grows you in to such a great person and gives you life skills. I'm loving my role. It's surpassed all my expectations."

The former South Cheshire College student, who also went to Alsager School, joined registered charity Everybody Health and Leisure in September last year and is loving her job.

"It's such a great place to work and everyone is so friendly. Fitness is about having fun. There's something about this centre. It's very homely."

As part of her training, Frankie has learnt lifeguard skills as well as a Level 2 gym certificate and first aid.

"Our role is to help people as well as ensure everyone is kept safe. If you notice someone is in trouble in the pool you need to act quickly," said Frankie.

"It's about blowing the whistle when is needed and pointing out things in a constructive and helpful way.

"In the gym I'll be watching to ensure weights are being picked up currently and not dangerously."

Frankie's leisure team role involves shift work over a 37-hour week, enabling Frankie to continue with her other passion – musical theatre.

For Frankie has music and movement in her blood. Her father, Nigel Birch, who sadly passed away in January, was director of Sandbach's Lions Youth Brass band for over 30 years.

Frankie is a member of Crewe-based Curtain Call Productions and has appeared in many productions from Shrek the Musical to Matilda.

"I might leave work and rush straight to rehearsals," says Frankie who seems to have boundless energy and a love for life. "I watch my diet and try to have plenty of protein with lean meat and stay hydrated," she said.
