Imagine building your dream pond with your favourite fish and being able to watch them swimming gracefully through a glass window?

Pond building and owning a pond can leave some people feeling like a fish out of water but one Sandbach man has come up with the answer.

And you don't have to go to the other side of the world to take the plunge and make a big splash in the world of pond making and owning.

For forward-thinking Carl Drennan has launched a booming business in Cheshire to make pond building easy for everyone.

Carl developed a love for fish and ponds while running his own gardening business before launching CWD Pond.

"I've always loved fixing and making things," said Carl. "My first pond came about after helping a customer to building one.

"It all started from there and now I've got my own YouTube videos and a very busy business.

"We supply the whole kit and can install but we have videos to show customers how they can install the pond.

"The kit comes with everything, from screws to the liner and glass if the customer has ordered that.

"The wood is pressure-treated railway-type sleepers. We make it as fool-proof as possible. Customers just send in their measurements."   

So busy is CWD Pond that Carl, who has a warehouse in Sandbach, that his team includes a full-time member of staff answering emails and processing orders.

"It really has taken off," said Carl. "Ponds were a big thing in the 1970s but when people started to spend time more time in their gardens during the Covid epidemic, they started to make a come-back."

Carl, from Filter Bed Way, who launched CWD Pond in June 2020, supplies kits to customers all over the country from Scotland and Devon to Ipswich and Kent.

He has even developed his own sealant, 'Mypond' under the brand MS300 which is being shipped all over the country and world from Belgium to America.

The CWD Pond website is literally a one-stop shop for ponds, supplying everything from filters to pond pumps, pond liners, pond cleaning and pipe and fittings.

And Carl's new 11-week-old daughter, Penelope, 'Pippa,' even gets a mention!

Carl has named the company's range of pressure pipe and fittings 'PIP' after the latest edition to the family.

"We're so excited to have a new baby and I couldn't leave her out," said Carl. "Her name just fitted the pressure pipe and fittings range beautifully." 

And with summer beginning to heat up, Carl expects his business to get even busier.

"Ponds are a great way to relax in the garden and a great talking point," he said.

"It's a nice interest to have and you never stop learning. There's always something new happening."
