Sarah Russell has been elected as Sandbach's new MP.

The Labour candidate secured 18,875 votes in the Congleton constituency which includes Sandbach.

But what do we know about Sarah so far?

Like her predecessor, Sarah is a solicitor. She is a former councillor in Manchester, lives in Congleton and is a school governor.

Married with three children, she said the election was "personal for her".

Sarah said she plans to be a "visible, community focused local MP".

"I'd like a Labour government that will bring stable leadership, and a plan to drive economic growth so we can deliver on what matters: the NHS, education, cleaning up our rivers, investing in clean energy to tackle the cost of living crisis, reforming leasehold, retaining the triple lock, and continuing the planned expansion of free childcare places," she told Nub News in the run-up to the election.

Sarah says she wants to "revitalise our high streets". "Rising bills have hit small businesses hard over the last couple of years – we all hate to see beloved shops and cafes forced to close," she said.

She has pledged to back a National Wealth Fund to help boost small businesses and work to reform business rates.

And she has also highlighted the importance of farmers revealing plans for a new deal to prioritise British-grown food, boost exports and ensure better flood protection.

Sarah also highlighted the Labour government's plans for the NHS saying she would make sure the benefits are felt locally.

Ending the unfair leasehold system and protecting rivers are also on Sarah's agenda. "I'll protect the Dane and Wheelock", Sarah pledged in her campaign during the run-up to the election.

"The next Labour government will introduce automatic and severe fines for water companies that harm the environment and pollute our rivers," she said in her manifesto.

"We will also bring in powers to the regulator to block bonuses until water bosses have cleaned up the filth."

"Thank you to everyone who has put their faith in me. For those that voted for other parties, I will be your voice too," Sarah tweeted after her win.

"I am so grateful for the opportunity to represent my home. I can't wait to start working for you."
