Members of Sandbach Justice and Peace group gathered next to Sandbach's historic Crosses to hold a vigil to mark the COP26 summit currently taking place in Glasgow.

Passers-by in Sandbach town centre were given paper boats at Saturday's vigil to highlight the event the theme of the event – "We are all in the same storm but we're not in the same boat".

Cheshire East Council has adopted a charter against modern day slavery and is holding training sessions for recently arrived Afghan refugees warning them of the potential dangers.

Members of the council's corporate policy committee voted unanimously on Thursday to adopt the Cooperative Party's Charter against Modern Day Slavery to demonstrate the council's commitment to ensuring its practices do not support slavery.

HS2 may not come to Crewe until 2031 a councillor has claimed

Conservative councillors have accused Cheshire East of 'dumbing down' its ambitions for Crewe after plans for a link road bridge near the railway station were shelved.

Members of the council's corporate policy committee voted on Thursday to revoke a previous cabinet decision in 2019 on the Crewe Southern Link Road Bridge preferred route and to revoke the decision of cabinet in March 2020 to consult on the draft Crewe Hub Area Action Plan.

CHESHIRE East Council leader Sam Corcoran says police investigations at the authority are in the past after a six-year probe ended this week.

Cheshire Police said they will be taking no further action after seven investigations into the borough council's affairs, which finished with the decision by the Crown Prosecution Service not to pursue allegations relating to land transactions at Crewe and Middlewich.

Firefighters from Sandbach went to the scene of a car on fire between junctions 17 and 16 southbound on the M6.

Two fire engines – one from Sandbach and one from Crewe - rushed to the scene yesterday (Wednesday) just before 2pm.
