Samantha Moore who spent more than 12 hours stuck in her car on the M6

A local mum has thanked lorry drivers and other motorists who shared refreshments while they spent hours in their vehicles in sweltering heat after a HGV collided with a railway bridge on the M6 near Sandbach.

Samantha Moore was on her way to Middlewich on the M6 yesterday when she got caught up in the long queues on the road after a HGV collided with a railway bridge.

A Girlguiding and brownie leader from Elworth who has given more than a quarter of a century to the youth organisation has received a special award for her outstanding work.

Claire Worth was presented with the Laurel Award, which celebrates exceptional service and is the second highest honour in the organisation, by the Deputy Chief Commissioner for Girlguiding North West, Kathryn Qattan.
