Police have reissued their appeal for witnesses to a serious accident involving a time trial cyclist in a village near Sandbach at the weekend.

Darren Maironis, aged 48 and from Tyldesley, Greater Manchester, died on Sunday following a collision between a van and a cyclist on Chelford Road near to the junction of Bridge Lane in Goostrey.

Top rugby player, Ewan Ashman, delighted pupils at his former school when he spent the day sharing his sporting talent, talking about his life and opening the school's new top-of-the-range gym.

Ewan, who plays for Sale Sharks and has represented Scotland several times, is currently part of Scotland's 37 man squad ahead of their summer series and attended Sandbach School in his youth which has a long history of sport.

Wear a mask if to go to Ashfields

Patients attending Sandbach's Ashfields Primary Care Centre are being reminded they still need to wear masks and social distancing rules will still apply.

They say: "Although the Government has confirmed the lifting of restrictions from today, Ashfields PCC will NOT be changing its policy on wearing masks, and will continue to keep social distancing in the waiting area.

A Sandbach teacher has won Teacher of the Year and one of his students "Best Innovation" award in a prestigious science, technology and engineering competition set up by TV presenter Maggie Philbin.

Dan Massey, Technology Curriculum lead at Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College and pupil 17 year-old Amelia Paton scooped the awards in this year's TeenTech competition which attracted 14,000 entries.
